Veterans Directed Home and Community Based Services
Veterans Directed-Home and Community Based Services (VD-HCBS) program serves Veterans of all ages who are eligible for nursing home care. The VD-HCBS gives the Veteran, the opportunity to remain in home and community with assistance from family and friends. Veterans with disabilities can avoid institutionalization and be enrolled in a program that gives choice and control over who is hired. Vets have the ability to hire people they know-such as family and friends-to provide care. The program provides the flexibility to schedule staff to meet needs and the responsibility of supervision. Vets also have the ability to purchase items and services that help them live independent of an institution.
A collaborative between The Administration for Community Living (ACL) and Veterans Health Administration (VHA), established VD-HCBS in 2008 to help Veterans with disabilities. In Minnesota, this program is the result of a partnership between (VHA) and the Minnesota Board on Aging. MRCI – Client Directed Services (CDS) is one of the two Fiscal Management Services that is approved to assist the Veterans with the financial details of this service.
What MRCI-CDS does as a Fiscal Management Service for Veterans enrolled in VD-HCBS:
To qualify for services in MN, the Veteran must be enrolled in the Sioux Falls VA Medical program and needs to be living in one of these 11 counties: Lac qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, Lyon, Lincoln, Pipestone, Murray, Cottonwood, Rock, Nobles, Jackson or Martin.
